If you’ve been exposed to a catastrophic event or experienced violence, abuse, serious illness, or the death of a loved one, you might notice increased depressive symptoms, feelings of hopelessness, and irrational beliefs about yourself or others. All of which are symptoms of traumatic stress. Traumatic stress can disrupt your life and negatively impact your overall sense of well-being.

The therapists at Bridger Peaks Counseling are here to help you address trauma and recovery through the use of individualized care.

One of the treatment services offered is Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). EMDR is a therapeutic intervention developed by Dr. Francine Shapiro to address traumatic stress.

EMDR has been used to treat a wide range of troubling negative experiences, from extreme incidents like rape, combat accidents, natural disasters and crime, to loss of a loved one, having an angry or alcoholic parent or being the victim of bullying, teasing or emotional abuse.

Since traumatic experiences can play a role in many problems, EMDR can also help with:

  • depression

  • anxiety

  • phobia

  • fears related to medical procedures

  • sexual problems

  • chronic pain

  • sleep problems

  • learning difficulties

  • performance anxiety
