SOMATIC EXPERIENCING® (SE)

Somatic Experiencing® is a body-oriented approach to the healing of trauma and other stress disorders. The SE approach works to release traumatic shock, which is key to transforming PTSD and other early attachment wounds. The SE approach helps assess when a person is stuck in the fight, flight or freeze responses and help individuals resolve and move through the fixated physiological state.

How it works: As described by the Somatic Experiencing Trauma Institute, SE facilitates the completion of self-protective motor responses and the release of survival energy bound in the body. This is approached by gently guiding clients to develop increased tolerance for suppressed emotions and difficult body sensations.

Since traumatic experiences can play a role in many problems, Somatic Experiencing can also help with:

  • depression

  • anxiety

  • phobia

  • fears related to medical procedures

Caitlin Brandl, MS, PCLC integrates Somatic Experiencing® techniques into her practice and is a SE™ Practitioner in Training. She is currently pursuing the training necessary to obtain a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner (SEP) Certificate, which requires 216 contact hours of instruction.
