JAMIE WELTAK

MS, PCLC

As a person and a professional, I believe everyone deserves to have someone who is truly in their corner. Sometimes, life feels challenging. My hope is to create a space where people feel safe to explore challenges and build strategies to move closer to where they want to be. I am guided by Carl Rogers' belief: "The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change." I believe that change and growth occur within the context of a supportive relationship, and I aim to build that relationship with those I work with.

My Approach:
I co-construct goals with you, provide helpful tools along the way, and ground my work in evidence-based practices. When working with people across the lifespan, I recognize the influence of human development. Particularly when working with children and young people, I incorporate playful and/or expressive modalities to meet them right where they are.

Who I Work With:
Children (4+), adolescents, and adults; parents and caregivers; couples and families. I welcome students, individuals of all identities and backgrounds, and those who are new to counseling.

Education & Credentials:
I hold a BA in Psychology from the University of California, Davis and an MS in Counseling (with a focus on couples and families with a certificate in Play Therapy) from California State University, Sacramento. Currently, I am deepening my commitment to this work as a PhD student in Counselor Education at the University of Montana.

Clinical concentrations:
Anxiety
Depression
Trauma
Self-Esteem

Stress
Life Transitions
Intimate Relationships

Modalities:
My practice is grounded in Person-Centered work, and I often draw interventions from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and attachment-based therapy.  Additionally, I use an Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT/EFFT) approach with couples and families. I use Child-Centered Play Therapy (CCPT) when working with children, and incorporate expressive arts, and sandtray for children, adolescents, and people of all ages who may benefit from a talk therapy alternative.
